Did you know that sometimes doing the “right” thing can still lead to the wrong attitude?
In the story of the Prodigal Son, we often focus on the younger brother—the one who ran off, wasted his inheritance, and came back home. But the older brother has his own lesson to teach us.
He stayed, worked hard, and followed all the rules. Yet when his father threw a celebration for the returning son, bitterness filled his heart. Instead of rejoicing, he felt cheated.
From his perspective, he had done everything right, while his brother broke every rule and still received a reward. Selfishness isn’t always loud or obvious—it can hide behind a sense of fairness or pride. In his mind, he believed he deserved the inheritance, but his brother didn’t.
When we stop seeing others’ blessings as threats to our own, we start living with a heart that mirrors the Father’s—one that celebrates when someone returns home to receive their inheritance.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
