Would you go to sleep with your door wide open at night? Of course not. For the protection of yourself and your family, you would make sure that every door is closed and every window is locked to keep out anything that could harm you or your loved ones. We are so cautious when it comes to protecting ourselves physically, but we need to have the same safeguards when it comes to our spiritual lives.

We often think of evil as something loud and obvious—darkness that announces itself with flashing lights and scary faces. But in truth, it usually slips in quietly, through doors we leave cracked open. A grudge we refuse to forgive. A show we know we shouldn’t watch. A lie we tell ourselves that “it’s not a big deal.” Or participating in activities influenced by evil that seem innocent.

The Word of God reminds us in Ephesians 4:27, “Do not give place to the devil.” Evil only needs an inch to start taking miles in our souls.

Keep your doors closed by staying in prayer, walking in obedience, and filling your home and mind with God’s truth. When we invite the Holy Spirit in, there’s no room left for darkness.

Every day, we make choices that either open or close doors. Let’s choose wisely. Let’s guard our hearts, our words, and our thoughts. Let’s lock the doors to evil—and open wide the door to God’s presence.

May the God of the Bible bless you!
