Picture someone running a marathon but getting distracted every step of the way. Every cheer, noise, and every other runner that passes them serves as a distraction. They run but constantly look to the left and right, distracting them from the race. You can easily imagine the outcome for such a runner. They will either finish in last place or not finish at all. That is what happens when we get distracted from our goal. We don’t get to the point we want to reach.
Those who desire a relationship with God are also in a race and cannot afford to get distracted by anything. Although enticing opportunities may arise, don’t lose focus on the goal of salvation.
As Joshua prepared for his new role, the Lord spoke to him. He had a big responsibility ahead of Him, but God’s word prepared him for the road ahead.
“… do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7
You are running a race every day, and your choices will determine your finish line. Do not look to the left, to the wrong places, people, and things that this world has to offer, or to the right where evil lies. Why turn to the things that will not help you reach your goal? Look ahead. Look to the One who will prosper your way wherever you go.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
