Have you ever tried speaking through someone else’s mouth? Of course not! That would never work. It’s like the “Telephone Game” you played as a child where you would stand in a line, and the person at the front would whisper a statement, and it would go down the line, one by one. By the time it got to the end, it would have been a completely different message—A word, phrase, or even the entire statement would be changed. It just goes to show we can only control what comes out of our own mouths. The story of Jairus is a great example of this.
And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” Mark 5:22-23
While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” Mark 5:35-36
Jesus cut off the words of death, and His word is still valid today. Maybe you’ve tried to go after something, but some people around were planting words of doubt and death. We can control what we say, but unfortunately, we are in less control of what we hear. We must be extra careful. Take care of your conversations, the information you take in, or even the music you play on the car ride home. Let there be a filter that takes in the good and blocks out the negative.
When you speak, you are sowing seeds, but what you listen to can result in you reaping the (negative) seeds that someone else is sowing.
Bulletproof your ears; reap what is good; believe in the word of God and not in the word of death.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
