We’ve heard the following saying from childhood: “If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.” Perhaps you heard it first from a teacher, parent, or grandparent. If only there were a way to prevent ourselves from saying the wrong things at the wrong time.
Do you remember a moment of chaos or confusion that just seemed to get bigger and bigger? What if you could have been the peacemaker in that moment?
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalms 141:3
Perhaps you have witnessed someone being the voice of confusion or problems. Maybe you see this in your family, workplace, the supermarket, or even a traffic light. Just as that person sowed confusion, you can be used by God to sow peace.
That is the purpose of this guard that King David prayed for. God wants to use you to be the peacemaker wherever you go. Have you noticed yourself complaining, arguing, being ungrateful, or speaking negativity? This prayer can help you. Ask God for this guard so His peace will be expressed through you, wherever you go.
May the God of the Bible bless you!
