There are few things in life that can be more annoying and frustrating than having to deal with a wishy-washy person. When a person is always back and forth between opinions or plans or desires, those around them suffer because the person wastes time, and many times ends up doing the wrong thing because they could not make up their mind to do the right thing.

It’s like a person that goes to a movie and stands at the ticket counter saying to the clerk, “I want to see this movie,” then they say, “no, actually, I want to see that one”. Then they change again, “no, I think I want to see the other one”. If they keep going back and forth, sooner or later they will be told to either decide or step out of the line.

That’s what happened in Elijah’s day, but on a much greater and much more serious level. The people could not make up their mind about which god was the true God and which god they would serve. Elijah got so upset that eventually, he said:

“How long will you falter between two opinions?” 1 Kings 18:21

In these words, we see how God feels about indecisiveness. It’s one thing to be confused and needs some guidance or direction. It’s another thing to know what needs to be done and go back and forth between options. In life there comes a time when you just have to decide. I don’t mean to blindly agree or blindly accept something, but to think and act. Make a decision. Especially when it comes to things of faith. God is looking for people who have a character like Elijah. People that will not stay faltering between two opinions. People who act more than they speak or wait. When you have that kind of bold faith to take action when action is needed, you will overcome every battle you face.
