How long after meeting someone, do you consider that person to be a friend? Over the years, the meaning of friendship has lost its essence. Back in the days, your friends knew that you needed help even before you did. They would rally around to support you when things were tough and they were not afraid to give you a few home truths when you needed them.

Nowadays, you look around and nobody is there for you. You are the life and soul of the party, but nobody even notices the sadness in your eyes. As long as you are doing well financially, you are surrounded by people, but when you go through the bad patches, not even a cup of water is offered to you. You are surrounded by ‘friends’ but feel like the most unimportant person in the room. If you slip out, perhaps nobody would even notice.

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

If the above verse were to have a modern-day translation, it would read:

“Which of your friends would actually take a bullet for you?”

Think about that for a minute. Jesus actually got Himself killed for you and me. Who does that?

And He didn’t stop there. He continues to make sure you are set for life: health wise, financially, emotionally, spiritually and He even takes care of your loved ones. How’s that for true friendship?

Wisdom tells us to hold on to such a friend. Perhaps you’ve lost faith along the way or have found it difficult to keep up a relationship with Jesus because of all that life has thrown at you. Turn back to Him. Let Him make things good for you. Jesus won’t leave you when things go pear-shaped. He is more than happy to welcome you back. So take that step. Stop punishing or blaming yourself. Stop looking back and start afresh. Jesus is the friend that you can trust with your life. In fact, He is waiting for you to give Him your life. Tell Him exactly how you feel, what you are going through and what you need. Allow Him to help and guide you. Build a true friendship with Him that will benefit you in this life and eternally.

Go on, speak to Him… Open up… Do it now.

May the God of the Bible bless you.

PS. If your life consists of drama, fake friends, liars, being ignored and getting hurt, then it’s time to re-evaluate the circles you walk in. …Just saying!
