What shall I render to the Lord for all of His benefits towards me?

King David was looking for a gift. Imagine if you had to give a gift to someone who is very important. Someone who is a maximum authority. The owner of Silver and Gold, the owner of Heaven and earth, the Creator. Imagine yourself searching for a gift for someone like this… That was the situation of King David. Because he recognized all that God had done for him. God gave him victory over the lion, over the bear, over Goliath (the giant), over Saul who wanted to kill him, over his own son Absalom who wanted to kill him as well. God forgave him of all his sins and made him king again. God restored his life and saved his soul.

Now in recognition for all of these blessings, salvation, deliverance, victories, he wanted to give a gift to the Lord.
Then he says here in Psalm 116 starting at verse 12
‘What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people.’

So now he found a way to give the gift. His offering. He said I will take the cup of salvation, I will pay my vows to the Lord. He decided to do like Noah who took the clean animals to sacrifice an offering to the Lord. And like Abraham who took his only son Isaac, to sacrifice to God. Like Gideon, who took the second bull and presented it to God. Or like Abel who took the best of his flock and gave an offering to the Lord.

This is the only gift that God accepts. When we take the best and we give it to Him because all that He gives to us is the best. So give the best in your prayers. When you go to church, arrive early because this is your best. Give your best offering, your sacrifices, your tithe, your devotion. Everything that you do before the Lord, do it in the best way because the Lord doesn’t give us leftovers. He gave us the Best. This is the gift that you should present to God, the best offering. You do this when you prepare it with devotion, fear, and respect and you present it before The Lord.

May the God of the Bible bless all of you
