Everyone has heard the saying, “talk is cheap”. But not everyone lives by it. The truth is, talk IS cheap. It cost nothing to say something. It cost nothing to make a promise. It cost nothing to say you will or will not do something. Talking doesn’t move anything in a persons life. It actually can even cause problems in their life.

That’s why our requests before God have to be fueled by more than just talk. We have to talk when we tell our request to God. We have to talk about our struggles or pains sometimes. But what we can not do, is JUST talk. We must make prayers, and also make vows.

A vow is stronger than a prayer alone will ever be. A vow is when someone decides to act on the prayer and show God that they mean business.

It’s what Hannah did when she was tired of her situation. The Word of God says,

“if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life,” 1 Samuel 1:11

She was fed up and talking would no longer solve it. So she made a vow to God. A vow that would be painful. A vow that would cost her to give up something. But that was the greatest expression of faith that she could ever show.

And we all know the end of the story. That son that she gave to God became the great Prophet Samuel. And she had many other children after. Her shame was removed.

And that is why we can conclude that prayer + a vow = results.

May the God of the Bible Bless You
