Actions have consequences – one of the first life lessons that children learn in school. Our actions affect ourselves and even those around us and we have to take responsibility for this. Everything we do, say and even think has a consequence. Like it or not, there is always a price to be paid. Good or bad.

But this isn’t only the law of the land, it’s also the law of God. Remember Adam and Eve in the garden? Remember Esau, Jacob and the plate of lentils? Their experiences have taught us a great lesson in actions and consequences. They acted on a whim, not realizing that doing what they pleased, or fulfilling their lusts meant actually turning their back on God.

Today things are no different. Many act so impulsively in order to satisfy their needs. It’s the life of crime because: ‘I need to feed my kids?’ Or the adultery because: ‘we just couldn’t help it’. How about the lies because: ‘the truth will put me in a lot of trouble’?

These are just a few of the attitudes that when taken, mean you are automatically turning your back on God. The thing is, if you turn your back on God, then He also has no obligation towards you. His back is turned towards you.

Have you ever felt so alone, abandoned and without hope? You cry and you pray but it seems as though your words are just bouncing off the ceiling and landing in the middle of nowhere.

Does it feel like your blessings are being stolen away from you one by one? Those are the consequences of turning your back on God and going for that forbidden fruit.

“I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 44:22)

All is not lost! Our merciful God invites you to return to Him. Perhaps you are living the consequences of turning your back on God. But He is not condemning you. All He asks is that you return to Him. Go back to doing what is right. Leave the forbidden fruit and trust that when God sets out standards to live by, it’s because He knows that they will bear positive fruits for your life. He will take care of all your wants and needs. He will give you true satisfaction and He will guarantee you a blessed future.

Here’s a rule to live by: Before you do anything, stop and ask yourself, if it is worth having God’s back turned on you.

May the God of the Bible bless you.
