Let’s say it was your birthday or another special day, and someone who is supposed to care a lot about you decides to bring you a gift. Now you didn’t pressure them to give you the gift, nor did you even ask for anything, but they out of so-called “love” decided to give you the gift. Now imagine if when they arrive with that gift, it was the cheapest, most thoughtless gift that you could imagine. How would you feel? Would you be happy? Would you be cheerful? Of course not! Depending on how bad it was, you may even feel offended.

The same is with God. There were two brothers who both decided to give Him a gift. But one brother took the cheapest and easiest thing he could find and gave it to God, whilst the other carefully thought out what he gave and made sure it was his best. By now you may know that I’m talking about Cain and Abel. In the end, the Word of God says:

“ And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. Genesis 4: 4-5”

As you see, one was respected, and the other was not. Why? Because with God it is not always about what you do, but how you do it. The way Cain treated God was as if He was not valuable. Basically, he treated God as if God were just “anyone”. Abel, on the other hand, showed respect and consideration.

In this story, we see how serious God is about how we treat Him. So the question you need to ask yourself is, “how have I been treating God”? Have your actions shown Him respect and reverence or have you been treating Him with disdain? The answer to that question will decide your future.

May the God of the Bible Bless You
