When you feel surrounded by problems and do not see a way out, you can easily feel trapped and hopeless. Actually, that is what creates depression. What is depression, other than a deep feeling of despair? When you’ve tried with all of your strength to fix your problems and nothing seems to work, you can end up in this pit. You find yourself sulking about everything that is wrong and not doing anything to solve the problem.

There was a man in the Bible named Jonah who had this kind of depression. This depression was because of his disobedience, but nevertheless he was there under a tree, feeling broken. He had no strength to press on. To the point that he said;

O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!” Jonah 4:3

For a person to say, it’s better for me to die, they must have been through a lot. They must be in a deep dark hole of desperation. That’s what people feel when they receive an eviction notice, or a word from the doctor saying that the cancer has returned, or the divorce papers, or the phone call from the county jail, etc. Immediately, the feeling of hopelessness strikes.

But not for those who belong to God and have a faith driven by revolt. Those with a living faith stand up to any challenge with the assurance that they will overcome it, because they know the God in whom they serve. That’s what it takes to overcome, and that’s the faith that you need to have. Awaken this faith, and you will awaken a new life.

May the God of the Bible Bless You
